From May 13 to 19, both included, the Ertzaintza will reinforce the surveillance and control of trucks on the Basque road network. Specifically, those transporting dangerous goods by road will be monitored, based on the international agreement that regulates this activity (ADR). Among other issues, onboard documentation, the use of orange plates and signaling, fire extinguishing means, various equipment and personal protective equipment will be reviewed.
It will also be checked whether the permitted driving times are exceeded and whether the stipulated breaks are taken, whether the tachograph works or whether it has been manipulated to falsify records and evade police controls.
According to the Director of Traffic of the Basque Government, Estibaliz Olabarri, “An accident involving trucks can have serious consequences, even more so if they transport dangerous goods. Hence the importance of carrying out these preventive controls, with the aim of avoiding risky behavior on the Basque road network.”
On the other hand, from May 21 to 23, weight monitoring will be reinforced in freight transport trucks, in general. It will be checked if they carry more load than allowed and if it is well secured.
The truck surveillance and control campaigns are part of a Calendar of 38 Traffic and Transportation Surveillance and Control campaigns, scheduled throughout the year.
